World’s first high-speed electric sea glider could revolutionize coastal transportation
Boston based company REGENT proudly announced the launch of its new vehicle: a fully electric sea glider – a unique mode of transportation that moves people along coastal roads by flying just a few meters above water. It has the comfort, speed and navigation systems of an airplane with the affordability, convenience and maneuverability of a boat. They will carry critical cargo and commercial passengers by 2025 – operated by ferry companies, airlines and governments, taking advantage of existing dock infrastructure.
The REGENT glider offers a range of 290 km at speeds of up to 290 km / h. The company has already received US $ 465 million in pre-orders for its all-electric ultra-fast machine, with funding from companies like Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, Founders Fund and others.
[We’ve] has received $ 465 million in draft orders from some of the world’s largest airlines and ferry companies. Aircraft operators are enthusiastic because sea gliders are half the cost of operating aircraft, and ferry operators are enthusiastic because sea gliders are six times faster. For all customers, REGENT enables shorter door-to-door lead times and complete elimination of emissions.
Everyone involved expects this glider to be a revolution in coastal transportation. Electric propulsion keeps things simple and affordable, while the hydrofoil gives the Regent design some advantages in the water. This is how the fast mammoth uses the wing effect in the ground to double the range of a conventional electric plane.
Mark Cuban, the first investor in the billion dollar company Relativity Space, said:
Coastal transport efficiency will be 100 times higher with REGENT. There is no other way to describe it. The idea of having to move between 2 coastal points is always a source of stress. Regent changes all that and makes it quick and easy. REGENT will offer people a gradual improvement in transportation. Passengers will spend less time in transit and more time with their families.
A seaglider is the last iteration of a ground effect vehicle (GEV) – an aircraft designed to fly so low (within a span of the water surface) that it climbs on a cushion of air pressure between the surface and the wing (similar to a hovercraft). This gives them extra lift and dramatically increases their efficiency. In addition, they can be certified as boats because they do not fly outside of ground effect.
REGENT’s seaglider rises out of the water on a hydrofoil before taking off on the wings, thus increasing the comfort and efficiency of the take-off and landing phases. And there is no need to worry about the safety of flying at such low altitudes, as a state-of-the-art, multi-redundant navigation and control system ensures flight safety.
Since REGENT’s sea glider operates from existing docks, its passengers will enjoy a more enjoyable marine-style experience than the indignities imposed on them at an airport these days. And the cruising experience will be nothing short of a thrill – weaving along the surface of the water at three times the speed of the highway!
This exotic vehicle is a fun adventure and an important contribution to the clean transportation industry. It’s a win-win everywhere and could change the world!
