IMCA publishes Marine Explosive Ordnance Operations Logbook

The International Marine Contractors Association has published a “Marine Explosive Ordnance (MEO) Operations Log” (Logbook 018) for the use of all MEO officers including divers, dive supervisors, MEO supervisors and other personnel who wish to register their involvement in MEO underwater activities. .
The logbook is designed to be used by MEO agents to record, in detail, the exact work they perform, such as investigation, identification and disposal activities. Instructions for using the logbook are described in explanatory notes. There are separate sections for recording details of exams and certifications held; training courses taken; and individual MEO field activities completed. The logbook also contains an area for the MEO agent’s own notes and a section where the operator’s MEO experience is summarized. The MEO Logbook should be used in addition to the IMCA Professional Logbook or other relevant logbook and is not an alternative.
As IMCA Dive Director Bryan McGlinchy explained:
“An MEO experience record is required by various regulatory bodies and certification programs for MEO personnel, and this logbook can be used as evidence for experience validation and certificate renewals.
Bryan McGlinchy, IMCA Diving Manager
“It is clear that the role played by the specialists involved in underwater MEO work is critical to safety and the means to ensure that MEO operators are qualified and competent to carry out their tasks are essential. Proper use of the IMCA MEO Operations Log should help ensure that MEO subsea operations are carried out in a commercially efficient, safe and environmentally acceptable manner by competent personnel.
Marine explosive ordnance is not an area where IMCA has traditionally been involved. However, the creation and publication of an MEO Operations Logbook was seen by the IMCA Diving Division Management Committee as a logical step to help ensure safety and efficiency in this specialist area. , especially given the increased requirement for MOE identification and elimination activities caused by rapid expansion. of the offshore wind industry. IMCA publishes a full suite of logbooks which can only be purchased at www.imca-int.com/store/books/. The MEO operations journal can be ordered online.
